Local context
As American pioneers settled the Dallas area, many came by wagon along the Shawnee Trail, which became the Preston Trail and later Preston Road. The community of Lebanon grew up along the trail and received a post office in 1860.
In 1902 the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, known as the Frisco, built a line through the area and needed water stops for its steam locomotives. Lebanon sat too high on Preston Ridge, so the stop was placed about 4 miles west on lower ground. A town grew up around it, and some Lebanon residents moved their houses there on logs. The new town was first named Emerson, but the Post Office rejected the name as too close to Emberson in Lamar County. In 1904 residents chose Frisco City, in honor of the railroad, later shortened to Frisco.
The city lies partly in Denton and Collin counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It grew from 116,989 people in 2010 to 200,509 in 2020, one of the fastest-growing cities in the region.
